SP41A???
SP41A???
Hello. I'm looking for an engine for my SP43B and I got an offer from a bikebreaker selling a 1992 SP41A engine. There is no mention of this type in "DR-typen" -page. Do you guys have any idea what is this engine?

Re: SP41A???
This is the engine of the DR650R Dakar (SP41):

Are you sure, the year of manufacture is 1992? As far as I know the model SP41 was built only in 1990 and 1991.
IMHO the engine will fit hypothetically at your SP43, but I have never worked at this models. So I'm not really sure.

Re: SP41A???
Skitzo,
Thanks. I just got confirmation that the engine is infact 1991 SP41A (Italian model).
If anyone could confirm me if this will fit SP43B or not, I would be very greatfull. I don't want to buy an engine that will not fit.

Re: SP41A???
Ask one or more Suzuki - dealers or write a mail to Suzuki.
I believe, that the SP41B is the German Dr 650 and SP41A was sold in other countries. So both engines should be the same.

Re: SP41A???
Hello Mara,
in the Thread neuer Motor - keine Leistung kick reports about having build in a SP 41 engine into the SP43. He had problems with the elektronic. Though, if you take the engine, take it with cdi and Vergaser.
Cheers Lars
And dont forget, the SP41 has no elektric starter.

Re: SP41A???
OnTheFly,
Thanks for translating that thread for me! Is it so that I can't use the original vergaser from the SP43 if I fit the SP41 engine to the SP43 frame? Why? Could I use a vergaser from SP42?
About the CDI and electrics, is it difficult to replace the SP43 electrics with the SP41 electrics?
Thanks,
Mara

Re: SP41A???
Okay,
I condense it for you. The main problem seems to be the conections to the CDI. The CDI needs to know which upm the engine have to adjust the stroke time up to 28° before OT. The problem is that the connectors do not fit together, so you have to fiddle it out. The guy has currently no upm display running und the engine works not above 3500 upm. solution not clear, so far. Hope you got it.
Cheers Lars
P.S. I guess the replacement of the electric will be a mess, cause all the connectors will not fit together. The Vergaser seems to fit according to the thread.

Re: SP41A???
Aha. So he has tried to use the SP43 CDI unit with the SP41 engine?
I guess I have 2 options:
1) because my new SP41 engine comes with the SP41 CDI unit + all electrics, etc., I could replace the SP43 CDI unit + electrics with these and it would work fine then when put into the SP43 frame? In this case I would then have a kickstarter. (SP41 engine + SP41 CDI + SP41 electrics --> SP43 frame = OK?)
2) or I could take the E-starter and engine side(s) from the SP43 engine and put them to the SP41 engine, put the SP41 engine into the SP43 frame and use the CDI + electrics from the SP43? In this case I would have E-starter.
(SP41 engine with SP43 E-starter and emgine sides + SP43 CDI + SP43 electrics --> SP43 frame = OK?)
Is 1) or 2) possible or am I missing something?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: SP41A???
Case 1 okay. In case 2 may problems with CDI, but try perhaps case 2 with SP41 CDI. In your case I would try case 2, because you would have electric starter and Kick. Which I consider as the best option for an enduro.
Wish you good luck.
Lars
